What you’ll need to Bring

Sewing Machine- If you own a sewing machine, please bring it along. You do not need a fancy machine at all! As long as you can sew a straight stitch and a zig-zag stitch, then you will be fine. If you don’t currently have a machine we can offer suggestions to find one for an affordable price, just give us a call.

Basic supplies-  sewing thread, machine needles, fabric scissors, pins, seam ripper. A full list of sewing kit supplies will be provided, with suggestions from nearby stores.

Fabric- No fabric is needed for the first few weeks as this will be provided. For later projects fabric choices will be discussed in week 1.

Sew Your Own Clothing Course 2- You will be using sewing patterns for your project items. We have many patterns available for use, but you are welcome to bring your own also.

About our Sewing Teacher- Andy Cownie

Andy is a qualified trainer with over 15 years of experience, and has a passion for teaching others in his practical, supportive, and encouraging style. He works as a corporate trainer by day, teaches the occasional paint class for Paint Splice, as well as running all of our Sewing courses (his true passion).

When you visit the Paint Splice studio you’ll see the funky aprons, curtains, tote bags, and more made for the studio. Why not come along and learn to make your own!

” I love to sew, whether making curtains, cushions, clothes for myself, friends and family (even my 2 dogs), there’s nothing like the feeling you get when you bring an idea to life! If you’ve never worn a piece of clothing that you’ve made yourself, trust me it’s contagious!

As a kid I was intrigued by the colourful outfits my aunt would make for her rock and roll dance school (with my mother’s help). It seemed magical the way they made sparkly shirts and dresses for us kids (and adults) to wear. A few years later after the passing of my grandmother, I inherited her sewing machine (which I still have) and decided to try my own creations, and haven’t stopped since!” – Andy
